The Current Network

SRO operates a network of railways with a total length of approximately 1,380 kilometers, extending from King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam and the City of Dammam itself (on the Kingdom’s east coast) to Riyadh, the Capital in Central Arabia, passing by Abqaiq, Hofuf, Haradh, Al-Tawdhihiyah and Al-Kharj. In addition, some auxiliary lines branch from SRO’s main lines to connect some industrial and agricultural areas and military sites with export ports and residential areas.

Railroads operated by SRO include:

  1. The Passenger Line:
    This is a 449-kilometer line that connects Riyadh to Dammam through Al-Ahsa and Abqaiq.
  2. The Cargo Line:
    This is a 556-kilometer line starting at King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam and ending in Riyadh, passing by Al-Ahsa, Abqaiq, Al-Kharj, Haradh and Al-Tawdhihiyah.
  3. Branch lines:
    These have a total length of 373 kilometers, and connect some industrial and agricultural production sites and some military sites with export ports and some residential areas.
